Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Lost all keys to my BMW E46 / E39
  • Need a spare key cut and programmed for my E38
  • Car cranks but won't start, immobilizer / EWS fault
  • Dealer wants $400+ for one BMW key
  • Key turns but no start after EWS replacement

Won't fix:

  • CAS-based BMWs (E60/E90 and newer use CAS — see our CAS service)
  • Mechanical ignition lock cylinder / tumbler wear
  • Comfort-access / keyless-go fobs (EWS cars are blade-key only)
  • DME / engine faults unrelated to the immobilizer

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Ship your EWS module to 1168 W Pioneer Parkway, Arlington TX 76013. IMPORTANT: if you need a key blade cut (all-keys-lost), also ship a door lock cylinder OR your key code — unlike CAS cars, the blade code can't be read from the EWS, so we need the lock to cut the blade. Return shipping is selected and paid at checkout — Standard $14.95 (3–5 days), UPS 2-Day $29.95, or UPS overnight $74.95.

What to include in your box

  • The EWS module (and a working key if adding a key)
  • A door lock cylinder OR your key code if you need the blade cut (EWS can't supply the code)
  • Your order confirmation number
  • VIN and the EWS part number from the label
  • A note stating add-a-key vs. all-keys-lost, plus your name, return address and phone

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Which BMWs use EWS instead of CAS?
EWS is on roughly 1995-2006 chassis like the E36, E38, E39, E46, E53, E83 and E85. From the E60/E90 generation onward BMW switched to CAS.
Can you do all-keys-lost, or do I need a working key?
Both. With a working key it's a straightforward add-a-key. With no keys at all we read the key data directly from the EWS on the bench and generate a fresh transponder.
Do I need to send the DME too?
For most EWS3/EWS4 jobs the EWS module alone is enough. If a previous EWS or DME swap broke the pairing, send both so we can verify the EWS-to-DME ISN sync.
Will the key work plug-and-play when I get it back?
Yes — we sync the transponder to your EWS so it's ready to start the car once the module is reinstalled. No dealer visit or on-car coding.
Why is this cheaper than the dealer?
A BMW dealer typically charges $400-$800 for a single EWS-era key, with all-keys-lost often higher. We work the module on the bench for a $250 flat rate.
