What the disable does

Best for

Daily-driven GM trucks and SUVs with constant stop-start cyclingOwners who press the disable button every single tripReducing starter / restart cycling wear concernsSmoother stop-and-go driving comfort

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Engine shuts off at every red light or stop and you want it off for good
  • You press the stop-start disable button every single drive
  • Constant auto stop-start cycling in stop-and-go traffic
  • You want a permanent disable, not a temporary per-drive toggle
  • Restart shudder or delay at takeoff from the auto-stop feature
  • You have a supported 2014–2018 GM truck or SUV and want stop-start gone

Won't fix:

  • Does not work on 2019+ Global B GM ECMs (not offered)
  • Does not work on non-GM vehicles (they need OBD or a plug-in module)
  • Does not act as an emissions modification or remove emissions equipment
  • Does not repair a weak battery, failing starter, or charging-system fault
  • Does not repair mechanical engine, starter, or auxiliary-battery damage
  • Does not program locked or unsupported ECMs that are not bench-writable
  • Does not disable other unrelated features or fault codes
  • Does not guarantee support without VIN + ECM label verification

Convenience calibration change — please read before ordering

This service permanently disables the auto stop-start function in the ECM calibration on supported GM applications for driver comfort, convenience, and reduced restart cycling — a legitimate use offered where legally permitted. It is NOT an emissions modification and does not remove or modify emissions equipment. Coverage is narrow: primarily GM roughly 2014–2018 (pre-Global B); 2019+ Global B ECMs usually cannot be done on the bench and are not offered, and non-GM vehicles are not supported here. Customer is responsible for ensuring this service complies with local, state, and federal law. Software programming does not repair mechanical damage — a weak battery, failing starter, or charging fault must be repaired separately. A technician verifies fitment (VIN + ECM label) and confirms your ECM is unlocked and bench-writable before you ship.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN and ECM service / part number and we confirm support before you ship anything — this is primarily a GM ~2014–2018 (pre-Global B) service, 2019+ Global B usually cannot be done on the bench, and non-GM vehicles are not supported. Once verified, remove the ECM and ship it to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1168 W Pioneer Parkway, Arlington TX 76013 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We program it on the bench, test communication, and ship it back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $14.95, UPS 2-Day $29.95, or UPS overnight $74.95).

What to include in your box

  • Year, make, model, and engine size (e.g. 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L)
  • VIN of the vehicle (used to confirm pre-Global B support)
  • ECM service number / part number off the case label
  • Confirmation the vehicle is GM ~2014–2018 (we verify Global B status by VIN)
  • Whether any other tuning has already been applied to this ECM
  • That you want a permanent auto stop-start disable
  • A clear photo of the ECM service-number label, plus your name, return address, and phone

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Is the stop-start disable permanent?
Yes. On supported GM ECMs we disable auto stop-start at the calibration level, so the engine no longer shuts off at stops and you no longer have to press the disable button every drive. It stays disabled until the calibration is changed back.
Which GM vehicles are supported?
Primarily GM roughly 2014–2018 (pre-Global B) trucks and SUVs with unlocked, bench-writable ECMs — Silverado / Sierra 1500, Tahoe / Suburban / Yukon / Yukon XL, and Escalade-era models. We confirm support by VIN and ECM label before accepting the order.
Can you disable stop-start on a 2019 or newer GM?
Usually not. 2019+ GM vehicles typically use Global B ECMs, which generally cannot be done on the bench, so we do not offer this on Global B. We verify your ECM by VIN first — if yours is Global B, we will tell you up front before you ship anything.
Can you do this on my non-GM vehicle?
No. This bench service is GM-specific. Non-GM vehicles need an at-the-car OBD procedure or a plug-in stop-start memory module instead — this mail-in ECM service does not apply to them.
How do I know if my ECM can be done on the bench?
Send us your VIN and a photo of your ECM service-number label. We confirm whether your ECM is pre-Global B, unlocked, and bench-writable before you ship. Coverage is narrow, so this verification step is required — it's how we make sure you're not paying for an unsupported vehicle.
Is this an emissions delete?
No. Disabling auto stop-start is a driver-comfort calibration change and does not remove or modify emissions equipment. It is offered where legally permitted, and the customer is responsible for compliance with local, state, and federal law.
Will disabling stop-start fix my weak battery or starter?
No. Programming cannot repair a weak battery, failing starter, charging-system fault, or auxiliary-battery problem. If stop-start was misbehaving because of a battery or electrical fault, that must be repaired separately. This only disables the auto-stop function in the calibration.
How much is it and how fast?
It is $250 flat and a fast turnaround once your verified ECM arrives. You choose your return-shipping speed at checkout — Standard $14.95, UPS 2-Day $29.95, or UPS overnight $74.95.
Is this a mail-in service?
Yes. After we verify support by VIN and ECM label, you ship the ECM to Auto Module Lab. We program it on the bench, test communication, and ship it back with tracking. If your ECM is Global B or otherwise unsupported, we tell you before you ship.
